ACANCY: Human Resources Officer at AFRICAN WILDLIFE FOUNDATION

 


Position Summary

This position will be responsible for supporting all HR functional areas in Central and West Africa ( this include AWF’s operations in Cameroon, Niger and Democratic Republic of Congo). The functions include but not limited to recruitment, payroll, contract management, leave management, database management, performance management, benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance. In addition, and with oversight by supervisor, this position will also be responsible for supporting implementation of the Human Resources Information system, ensuring up to date departmental filing, establishing a mechanism for regular HR check-ins with managers in WCA and other team leaders and work with supervisor on appropriate interventions as needed. This position will report to the Human Resources Manager with matrix (Administrative) reporting to the Cameroon Country Director. This position will be based in Yaoundé, Cameroon and may require occasional travel to the field offices and HQ.

Responsibilities

Recruitment & Selection

  • Coordinate recruitments, assist with the development and review of job descriptions, post advertisements, respond to applications, short-list candidates, schedule interviews, (as applicable) assist in selection process, prepare interview and recruitment reports and conduct reference and background checks on selected candidates.
  • Provide line managers guidance on the recruitment process including, guidance on salary scales, appropriate recruitment options and job boards
  • Circulate vacancies and place them on appropriate job boards and ensure job advertisements on AWF website are up-to-date
  • Generate employment offer letters and contracts, including new contracts, amendments, and renewals. Facilitates all signatures, and electronically file fully executed documents.
  • Support employee onboarding and off boarding processes in West and Central Africa, related paper work and coordination of the same

Policy formulation and updates

  • Participate in updating HR policies, templates and related documents as needed
  • Suggest changes to the policies aligned to the relevant laws in WCA

Payroll Management

  • Work with Finance Officer to coordinate the outsourced International payroll for DRC with providers, updating data to reflect new hires, terminations, changes in employment terms and benefits eligibility
  • Ensure all statutory payments for Cameroon are submitted by or before deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent filing of payroll data, reports, pays lips, and backups in prescribed formats

Benefit Administration

  • Ensure that all country offices in Central and West Africa share and file the proof of statutory filings on monthly basis Working with supervisor, facilitate work permit requests for International staff in Central & West Africa ensure timely inclusion of staff on the benefits, communicate changes and facilitate claims with vendors, insurance firms and brokers carry out monthly database maintenance and updates on Box, HRIS, dashboards and metrics
  • Respond timely to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits. Act as liaison as required between staff and benefits administrators in Central & West Africa and other locations where applicable
  • Support the supervisor in compiling, updating and maintaining a detailed benefits schedule and fringe benefits tracking for Central & West AWF offices

Others duties

  • Support the performance management process
  • Manage physical and electronic filing of the Human Resources Department in Cameroon and ensure that the F& A officers in Niger and DRC are updating the same.
  • Ensure that all files are compliant, up-to-date, and complete
  • Provide administrative support to the HR department on a daily basis
  • Respond to employee queries in a timely manner
  • Participate in AWF’s culture change initiatives
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as may be assigned by line manager(s)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Relations, Psychology or related. Master’s degree is an advantage
  • At least 5 years progressive experience in Human Resources and consistent with above responsibilities
  • Proven experience in an international context
  • Excellent organizational skills: able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional, diplomatic and thoughtful communication skills
  • Strong Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with HRIS systems or able to learn.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French is a must.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with the highest level of professionalism
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
